Yes and no. TV Rick is an actor being very actor-y at times and is only as consistent as the staff of writers and directors bother to make him. The end result is that TV Rick just has a different personality than comic Rick (deeper??? probably just the result of a dozen different writers) -- they're kind of just two different guys.

Earlier in the comic Rick was a bit... unstable...

and still is. Currently comic Rick sleeps outdoors on the grave of his dead 2nd wife
like TV Rick to some extent, but for the most part people follow him because he is cunning (even ruthless) and seemingly un-killable. Basically, come hell or high water, he survives. Being on his side means you will probably survive too (of course, life is unpredictable when you've got the dead rising from their graves eating people...).

And not TV character Carol, who went from housewife in abusive marriage to one woman Navy SEAL team un-killable. She hasn't gotten a scratch since season one.

I mean comic Rick gets hurt BAD all the time and just keeps going.

in the comic, he lost his right hand early in the series -- the Governor chopped it off while one of his goons held him down. He gets shot with a crossbow in the back and lives. Negan will break his leg and give him that (permanent) limp he has the cane for (and I suspect AMC will have Negan cut off his hand too -- they kind of conceal it in the "flashforward").

Later, he gets beaten half to death, and kills his attacker, unarmed with his busted TEETH. Tore into the guy's jugular like a zombie. etc. etc.

He is a mess, maimed and battered and mostly humorless and scarred, but he just keeps getting back up.

He's no super hero -- he just keeps dragging his battered frame back up for another round. He's just a survivor and that's it. In the apocalypse, people who keep getting back up inspires confidence

That said, as in the TV show, every now and then, he has someone looking to take him out and take over, so not everyone is happy with him.

Speaking of personality, I hadn't thought of this before, but if you have ever played The Last of Us, Joel's character is a lot like comic Rick.
