An update:

So after a few applications of second skin "spectrum" on the outer rear wheel well areas, and additional layers of GT Mat + Noico + additional foam layer on the insides, I've successfully gotten the noise from the back area of the car to a very reasonable level.

I found a bigger difference going back the second time and using different types of material.

Still need to do the area directly behind the seats, and the floor, and ditch this abysmal stock stereo!!
