It's a huge increase in overall cost, certainly when you factor in lifetime cost compared to a smaller lighter car with a much simpler 4pot engine.
Leasing or financing, you are spending well over 100 dollars a month more. I'm not sure i'd want to buy any new car outright nowadays. It goes back to who actually wants these cars two? Mature family people with a bit of disposable income? OR teenagers and college kids that have a tight budget? Are the later even responsible enough to have the extra power(debatable irrelevant fact). In both cases the cheaper car makes sense. I wouldn't buy my child a 370z compared to a mx5 or brzfrs86 on both facets of cost and increased power, plus its less practical on all fronts.
The other question is how long do people want to keep cars nowadays? How many people here still own a 09 model and are looking to trade or at least get something newer? There has been no major upgrades on this chassis to justify just buying a newer model. A new engine would be enticing even if the chassis is the same. Is a 4 cylinder sacrilege?
Bigger question is should Nissan make an s15 successor if they are not gonna appease the Z crowd?
