If the light stays out, then a battery was the problem (or corrosion on the battery holder). Some things take a while to auto-reset and you may not have given the system enough time when you swapped fobs and had the "hot" fob in the car.

If the light comes back on, find out if any DTCs have been thrown. Many auto parts stores will lend/rent OBD code readers. Or they can be bought for $20-40 (or more for more sophisticated models).
