Sounds like the resistance for your hatch is quite a bit stronger than my 2011. Mine takes a bit of a pull, but easily done with one finger. The tricky part is pulling your hand out before getting severed off! I should probably invest in the clear tape as well as my gf won't risk losing a finger either
