Well it's free to cut the boot off, pull it apart. and give it an inspection. If there's no appreciable wear or gouging, and the joint wasn't making any noises while driving, I would go with a regrease and a new boot. Wear some disposable gloves, and have a ton of paper towels on hand. Don't let that grease touch you cause it is nasty.
