As with all insurance the companies sell it because they make lots of $.
Sure there will the cases where someone saves $ due to repairs needed but many more end up getting it and never using it.
We (wife and I) decided years ago to never get the warranty and just buy new stuff when things break, usually newer models by then anyway.
Only exception to this 'rule' is my niece with a cellphone curse, the kid could break one in a lifeproof case with a double layer of bubble wrap. In this type of situation get the warranty...
