I had to deal with similar issues installing my Top Speeds... It helps to have a buddy to yank on them while you tighten them in the proper position.
I ended up needing extra washers on the passenger side to get them even.
Also, it really helps to alternate when tightening the bolts on each side 1-turn left side, 1-turn right side, etc... to make sure it tightens evenly. Took me a couple tries on each muffler and in the end they're pretty even but if you really look close there is a slight difference. I imagine every set will have slightly different end results.
