I don't mind talk if it isn't badly scripted...
I think AMC is trying to figure out what to do with the unexpected dislike by viewers of Negan, who is otherwise brilliantly cast, and that outcome has generated a lot of dead air to be filled by random babbling dialogue from other characters.
What we may be seeing is the dividing line in between the TV fans and the comic fans: The (comic) story is not about feel-good Hallmark moments; it is about survival in an unforgiving hellscape, where anything can happen and usually does.
They are starting to spend too much time on the former and get cartoonishly silly with the latter. Neither type of fan is going to tolerate that forever...
