Default F80 m3

My curiosity and willingness to branch out are getting the better of me lately.

Base M3 with 6MT and Competition Package... anyone ever driven one? Are they garbage after they age? I imagine parts are EXPENSIVE.

I don't know much about BMW other than a general knowledge of their lineup (that, and that every single performance/luxury sedan gets compared to a 3-series or M3 - they're the benchmark).

I'm wondering if my desires for a single car that does everything I want can be met with one of these. A driver's car that fits the whole family and my junk. I have loved my Q50 so far, but all the stuff I want to change about it is present within the M3 (real rear differential, stick shift, forged wheels, un-crappy tires, as examples).

Enlighten me, brethren!
