French cleats work great I use them in the garage for making racks to hang lawn care crap on.
These are going to be some shelves to hold small, decorative items and not serious weight. They are going to go on the wall by the tv in the game room. The boards I picked up are just hobby boards at 3/4"x3"x48" but I think I found a source locally that has some nice 4/4, 90/70 walnut lumber that I can finish in the shop. Tried to find a pic on google which can represent the internal mounting braces.

I am planning on building the mounts different but this pic gives the general idea.
