When I was growing up, I used my Dad's radial arm saw, router, etc to make book shelves and such. Never anything fancy. Most complicated project was building an enclosure for an 8-track player that fit on the hump of an old Mustang. Haven't done anything worth mentioning in the last 35 years or so.

Lots of fun but a real PITA to cleanup. If you plan on working in a garage or other habitable area, invest in a good exhaust/filter system to keep dust and stray chips to a minimum.
