DIY: Homelink in center console
I have a base 2009 & I disliked the 3 blank buttons above the cup holder in the center console. With no homelink garage door opener in the mirror I thought I might be able to add it to the center console. I purchased a Cadillac homelink unit off eBay for about $20. I took out the cup holder, removed the button blanks, cut the middle 2 button supports out with a dremel. I cut a piece of black pleather larger than the top of the button frame, cut a slot in the pleather to get the homelink inside it. I glued & taped the pleather around the outside of the homelink unit & frame, then when it was screwed back into the cup holder piece the material pinched up tight. I also secured the homelink unit with a screw strategically placed on either side as not to ruin the board. The unit angles for mounting in a headliner so it was a little tricky. Then I added some stuffing to firm up around the pleather. I was going to tap power off the 12v outlet in the center console but it was in such a bad spot for my hands to get to that I just took out the 12v outlet under the passenger glove box & used that connection. I think it turned out pretty good.
