I wonder if anyone traded a 370z for a Miata (2016) or have any comments.
Now, I don't track, just use it as DD in the Nashville area. I do take long trips, drive fast (sometimes too fast on highways). I would say 80% on highways. They say that the Miata handles well and the new one with its light weight is reasonably quick.

I went the other way... kind of... I had a last gen Miata and ended up getting rid of it for a '16 Nismo. Yes, there is a new generation of Miata out now, but, I think much of this still applies:
1. I liked the Miata. But I didn't love it. I feel the 370, especially in Nismo form, comes in a "let's have fun" configuration right out of the box. A stock Miata would be terrible in comparison. I know the new interior is an improvement over the one I had, but even after looking at the current Miata, I wouldn't go back.
2. My Miata was supercharged and had a ton of upgrades done on it, from front to back. Supercharger, intake, full exhaust including headers, forged wheels, brake upgrades, a ton of chassis bracing, pricey coilovers, you name it... and after all of that, the car felt like a noisier version of the 370. I bought the car modded off a trusted coworker of mine in the condition it was and I can't imagine a stock Miata being very fun... it's slow as balls and without the 18k in upgrades, would've been crap in comparison to a 370.
3. I'm a tall guy. 6'7". I did fit in the Miata I had, but just barely. The new one is a tad bit smaller... overall the 370 is just a bit more comfortable over all.
4. The Miata, in stock form, seems to be geared to middle aged men who want to have a bit of fun still, but not TOO much fun. Yeah, if you're 45-50 years old, you'll love it. But don't expect anything fantastic about it, in any department.
5. I thought I would miss the convertible aspect. My car was a 2009 Miata GT with the power retractable hard top... with the top on, visibility was horrendous. Everything was always noisy, especially on the highway... the wind noise is brutal. The hard top is no better at insulating than the rag top. It sucked driving with the top down at times, because traffic was moving slow and it was HOT out... not exactly pleasant... I honestly don't miss having a convertible at all. It was ok while I had it... but I 10/10 prefer the Nismo in every way imaginable. I drive with the windows fully down quite often in the Z, and I love it much more than in the Miata.
6. The engine/exhaust sound did nothing for me. It sounded like a raging lawnmower... I'll have a hard time going back to a 4 cyl sound over a 6 cyl sound. No thanks.
After awhile, I had a bit of buyers remorse with the Miata. Not huge, because I knew I could sell the car for pretty much what I paid for it, but still.. it wasn't that great. I haven't had a single feeling of remorse with the Z. Love it, through and through!!
