We have a Personal Suede Steering wheel in our car. The main reason we installed it was to have it attached to a quick release so we can get in and out of the car easier. The full bucket seats have high bolsters so it's tough to get your legs past the steering wheel. I enjoy the overall feel when driving, but it does have some cons:
- No airbag, so safety is sacrificed as you stated. This is our show car, so it doesn't see much road time any way... but still something major to consider if this is your daily driver.
- Suede material gets dirty really easily. We're always washing our hands before driving the car. This isn't an issue if you decide to go with leather, but you will still want to take care of it.
- No more steering wheel controls. Cruise control is the feature I miss most.
