The Locktite will do a good job (unless you get real rough with your shifting).

To position knob without Locktite:
1) Thread jam nut onto shaft until it bottoms out
2) Thread knob onto shaft until it hits the jam nut or bottoms out
3) Unscrew knob until it is in correct position
4) Tighten jam nut against bottom of knob
