If "it went dead" means the car died, then it's probably not the steering lock (ESCL will prevent starting but not kill the car once going). But it would be a very good idea to check yours and remove fuse if it hasn't already been done (search is your friend).

OP, SouthArk has the FSM link in his signature, use it. Hopefully you did due diligence before buying the car; i.e. it's not a flood car or from an area that has recently been under water.
