This may be a long-shot, but those door sills come with a thin film on the surface that is normally removed after installation. The film is meant to protect the sill from any minor abrasion while in storage/transit as well as during installation. It could be that the film was never removed and it has started to deteriorate.

Good idea, but no, the plastic has been removed.
I seriously hope it isn't a leak or condensation causing it. I keep it garaged and only drive it a time or two a week, so I don't plan on getting it wet, but our weather is really unpredictable and humid, so that is always a possibility. Just doesn't make sense that it's that way on the brace, too, unless the rear window leaks, too...
