Nissan's Ester Oil is not a synthetic. It is a conventional oil with an ester additive. That being said, nobody is 100% positive if that's what Nissan is actually using as the factory fill. They might be using their regular, non-ester, oil. But either way, it's a conventional oil they're using. My recommendation is to do your first oil change with Nissan's Ester oil at around 1200 miles, as it's still a dino oil. Then switch over to a synthetic (either a group IV with ester additives like Amsoil or a group V, which uses an ester base stock, like Redline) at, say, 5k miles.
