My 24 row is probably as small as I can run. Here is the list of stuff I have done to keep oil temps in check:
24 row cooler
7" shrouded fan on oil cooler, thermostatically controlled @160*
I run the pan spacer, and 1 qt overfull, so almost 7qts of oil total
Motul 300v, ester core seems to produce less heat when compressed
CSF radiator w/15% antifreeze and water wetter
The main thing for me has been running the car richer, 11:0 a/f vs. 11.6 a/f was almost 15 degrees in oil temps and a big difference in coolant as well.
I can maintain 260* oil temps now for over 25 min of running the car hard at 550whp. With the quality of oils and such now I don't think this is anywhere near unreasonable for 30min or less. And no I have never experienced limp mode.
