In cars that usually have large screen/large touchscreen head units, typically, the place where they put the screen isn't where the guts of the radio is. The screen area where you touch is usually just the slim screen and the place where you insert CDs and fiddle with all the buttons is where the core unit is. Presumably it is done this way due to space limitations behind the dash, safety, etc.
ya i just took a look at my car and im going to install it down below like everyone else, its at arms reach and the shifter doesnt block anything.
