Review: Motordyne e370 vs. Fast Intentions 18"
Coming from a 350z HR to a 370z was a major upgrade. However, the 370z severely disappointed with the stock exhaust sound – almost non-existent. So my first step was to look for an exhaust.
I read all the threads/reviews and listened to countless youtube clips and settled on the Motordyne e370. I found one locally, nearly new, with the ART pipes. I realized after a few months however that this was not the exhaust for me and just recently swapped it out for a Fast Intentions 18” (and kept the ART pipes) and sold the e370 to another member here.
Both are phenomenal exhausts, however this review is meant to save some people time, energy, and money when making this decision.
The car: 2012 370z stock except for the ART pipes.
SUMMARY
FI 18” – how the 370z should have sounded coming from the factory. Beautiful deep sound, smooth delivery, not overly aggressive or loud yet still a major improvement from stock.
e370 – different beast, insanely loud, crisp and aggressive downshift throttle blips, scares people.
WHO FOR
FI 18” –In my professional career in my 30’s I realized showing up to meet clients or colleagues it was not a good look rolling up in a car that sounded like it was going to eat them. The FI 18” is PERFECT blend of sound and sophistication. 370z sounds now like the sports car that it is and should have been from the factory. If you want to open it up you can, but it is very manageable on the street in lower rpms.
It attracts just the right amount and kind of attention vs. the wrong kind of attention (police, people thinking you want to race them at every light..etc)
e370 – if you want one of the loudest and most aggressive sounding exhausts on the street, this is the one for you. It sounds like a race car. The exhaust is thrilling. Particularly when you throttle blip/heel-toe down shift, the exhaust is insane. It is hard to describe in words. Drive or follow a 370z with this exhaust in a tunnel, and your jaw will drop.
The exhaust is ALWAYS “on” – you can keep it somewhat tame in the low rpm, but it opens up immediately with throttle input.
FIT AND FINISH
Both are clearly well designed and constructed.
FI 18” - The FI has beautiful bright silver (SS) exhaust tips and cans, and is more recessed into the bumper then the Motordyne. Zero issues with fitment. Again, looks as how the 370z exhaust should have come from the factory, however it has that added aftermarket touch. Really is an attractive exhaust.
It does have a metallic hiss with the ART pipes when you let off the gas between 2200-1500 rpm, but this is not that noticeable, and others have commented they enjoy this sound. I would prefer if this was not there, but by no means a deal breaker and to be clear has nothing to do with the construction of the FI.
e370 – larger and “bulkier” tips then the FI. Protrudes from the rear bumper, looks like it means business. Tips are more of a goldier tinge in colour then the bright silver FI. Like the FI, excellent build quality, no issues in this regard.
If there was a hiss with this exhaust I couldn’t hear it as it’s so loud!
CUSTOMER SERVICE
I cannot comment on the Motordyne as I bought it used locally, but I do want to comment on Fast Intentions customer service.
I have to say I am extremely impressed with this business. Kevin from FI was so responsive to every question. Ordering was simple and straight forward. I know he has 100’s of customers, many people on the waiting list, but it is clear from my interaction that he treats each customer like you are his only customer. He knows exactly where in the process your product is at, is accurate in their time estimates, and shipping was a breeze. Product was packaged perfectly and arrived as expected. I would give them 5/5.
OVERALL
It really comes down to what you are looking for. If you want an enhanced and greatly improved exhaust tone in both depth and sound without being obnoxious, get the FI. If you want an exotic, aggressive and loud exhaust tone which is always present, get the e370.
