I used to own a Wrangler Rubicon and about 90% of other Wrangler drivers did the Jeep wave. Researching this phenomenon for the Jeep Wrangler culture goes all the way back to WWII. When Jeep drivers would pass each other out in the field and wave at each other going from the battlefield or returning to camp, it had not so much to do with Jeeps as just the acknowledgement of seeing your fellow brothers in arms. After WWII ended and all those service men and women returned many purchased used military Jeeps and continued the Jeep wave.

Now as far as the Z goes I give all of the ones I see a head nod and return waves when I see them wave at me. When I come across 240Z Datsuns in good shape however I just openly gawk.
