Wrap enough electrical tape on the shift knob to about the size of a grapefruit. About half a roll. Hell, full roll. Screw it. it's cheap.

Next, wrap the gaffers tape over the duct tape. Wrap until it's the size of a human head. (i'm exaggerating but you get the idea)

Take the pipe wrench and twist that bastard until it feels like the car will turn before the knob does. Remove all the tape and you have a stock knob that hasn't been chewed alive. Enjoy.
