Not everything from the factory is good as is (fuel tank, CSC, steering wheel lock), you are right there is little benefit to it but it can help keep things like TBs and other parts of the intake cleaner and less loss of power over time. 500 is worth it for a show car, but really one can just get a generic catch can system and mount it somewhere, there should be a DIY if you google search. They are "cheap" and easy to install.
