Default TPMS issues '09 Sport to '15 Nismo Rims

I have a '09 Sport Touring, but recently purchased a set of almost brand new (~1.5k miles) Nismo rims & tires off of a forum member here. He left the stock TPMS in them, so it seemed like everything would work out... but, as always, it's never that simple.

I got them mounted and took them to the Nissan dealership to have the TPMS reprogrammed to accept the new signal. The service tech came back after a few minutes and told me that the TPMS' in the new rims is either broken or defective, but I'm thinking it's a backwards compatibility issue. (I remember hearing that Nissan did some sort of TPMS system change/upgrade around '10.) Like I said, the Nismo rims and tires are almost brand new and haven't been messed with. They were shipped well and I just have trouble believing that they are all broken/defective already.

I still have the TPMS from my old Sport 19's, so I can try switching them into the new Nismos, but according to Nissan, that'll take about 2 hours of labor (~$200).

Anyone else had this issue? Anyone have a workaround or solution? I'm hoping that this is actually just the Nissan dealership not knowing exactly what they're doing. It wouldn't be the first time.

Either way, they do look good.
