Oil Filter Pressure Drop
I am in the process of adding a oil filter sandwich plate to monitor the oil pressure and temp.
In looking at the flow of oil, the oil pressure sensor in the sandwich will measure the oil pressure BEFORE the filter. The factory oil pressure port is AFTER the oil filter.
A posting on a Genesis forum mentioned that at idle the pressure was the same before and after the filter. BUT at 3,000 RPM the oil pressure BEFORE the filter was 10-15 PSI higher. I wonder if the VQ37 is similar. We have such a small oil filter and filter area.
This got me thinking... by measuring the pressure before and after the oil filter, we can see when and how long the oil filter bypass valve is open. Also, we can see how much pressure it takes to push the oil thought it and does that pressure increase as the filter is in use?.
Has anyone already done this or have data to share?
