The 370Z has had aluminum doors and hood from the get go. I use sets of magnetic and reusable vinyl numbers. Depends on how I feel, I guess. Or how I want the car to look in pictures at the track. My vinyl ones have lasted me quite a long time, but that is because I only put them on in a clean environment. The magnetic will last forever. I purchased my numbers from izoomgraphics.com. The guy is real nice, has even expedited a set to me for an upcoming track session. Very good quality. I suggest getting ones with a contrasting color border. It makes them two layers thick and more durable.
As far as residue from vinyl, nothing left on the car. Plus, after a track event, I'm more concerned getting all the black rubber marks off my bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, roof, windshield, etc, than worried about adhesive residue. Goo Gone!
Hope this helps.
