I have a license plate frame that will be mine until I leave it to someone else, probably my kid in the future, like my dad for me.
It is a Lifetime Member 11-99 Foundation License Plate Frame. For everyone who knows what that is and what it's for you know where I'm going with this haha

But the 11-99 Foundation was a Charity organization where people could donate to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to help and provide emergency service to CHP officers and families in crisis. Those are also the officers that mainly patrol freeways and are the ones that run those long 18 hour shifts you hear about from cops. There were 4 levels of charity to this organization.

-Classic: $2,500 for yourself + $1,000 for spouse
-Bronze Tier: $5,000 + $1,500 for spouse
-Silver Tier: $10,000 Spouse included
-Gold Tier: $25,000 Spouse Included

My dad ended up in 2004 donating the Gold Tier amount to the 11-99 Foundation. To this day he still has the wall plaque signed and dated by Spike Helmnick who was the Police Commissioner back then, the Laser engraved Brass 11-99 Foudation ID inside a Wallet with a slot where my dad keeps his Insurance ID cards. He puts his Drivers License on top of the wallet with the brass ID and the Insurance ID cards, with registration underneath.

I use the License plate frame on my car and have done so since I got my license 3 and a half years ago. I have had 3 separate CHP officers on the freeway, pull me over for something and would ask about the license plate frame and would tell me "Thank you for your contribution to our foundation", tip their head/hat and walk off.

I've also know that that license plate frame has gotten me warnings and plenty of times where cops have gotten behind me get really close to run my plates, saw the license plate frame, change lanes to the side of me and drives off.

There was one time my dad told me that he was sadly.. driving drunk, and a CHP pulled him over and probably should have gone to jail that night, but when the officers saw his 11-99 Foundation Badge they gave him a police escort home.

Being respectful is the best way to win with the law.
