Always do a walk around with them.
They've already admitted negligence by offering to pay anything. Call the GM and threaten to call Better Business Bureau (or equivalent), leave negative reviews on FB, Yelp, etc.
They know they screwed up -- why offer any compensation otherwise?
Plus, they must have a body shop -- in the end they can fix this for free or next to it and keep their customer happy.
