Okay, first off: fantastic episode. Whoever was the actor was amazing -- made his potentially tough-to-sell back story for a lesser actor absolutely believable and gripping.

I don't know who scripted that -- Kirkman or AMC hacks, but he was a completely original character and done really, really well.

And... he's dead.

So, I feel a bit... cheated? I feel like, if the AMC/Kirkman unholy alliance can occasionally pull out something of this level of excellence, why does it have to be squandered on an overly long explanation of why Morgan knows how to fight with a staff???? In the end, that's really all it was.

Oh sure, you could argue that this explains Morgan's character/motives/nature more than his fighting chops, but lets be real here: this was an unexpectedly excellently side story pissed away to explain why in the entire zombie apocalypse, hardly any of the folks who actually somehow survived has any formal had-to-hand combat training (or any other kind for that matter...), but Morgan does.

Sigh.

Well, anyway, as a "stand alone" episode, it was great, so I guess I shouldn't complain, but I wish they had saved him for FTWD or something... oh well.
