I must look in the manual and see how it's done. I'm really not all that familiar with the controls on the V1. I never use 'em except to turn it on. YaV1 has a mode where the display on the V1 is black so it doesn't light up like a christmas tree at night. YaV1 runs on the phone down low in the car. All the alerts go there.

Using the on board buttons to change modes on a V1 is a PITA. I use the bluetooth dongle and V1s iPhone app to switch modes.
BTW you can use a splitter like this one,
RJ11 Splitter, to run the bluetooth dongle and the remote screen at the same time on a V1.
