I leave mine in gear. Also I don't wash it, it just gets dusty over the winter anyway.
Also not sure why you disconnected the battery. Is this instead of a trickle charger/battery tender? Is this facility heated/at least kept above freezing? If so you should be fine.
Overall it sounds good. Your Z should be ready to have fun again in the spring.
