I've tried that in the past on my Pioneers, but the HU would give error messages at times. It needs to be grounded in a certain timing sequence, otherwise it would not register as grounded.

So I added a rocker switch (one of the 3 blanks) on my Z and flick that on/off, on my other cars I bought the timed relays aka grounding kit.
