Snipping the wire is, IMNSHO, a bit drastic when all you have to do is remove a fuse. Getting to that fuse can be difficult - the fuse block (IPDM-ER) can be a PITA to get out of its bracket if you don't know the "tricks." There are multiple DIYs on this site that will show/tell you all the tricks involved and, once you've done it, is a breeze after that. YMMV
See link in my sig for a recap of ESCL posts - hasn't been updated in years but there hasn't been any new info during that time.
While CSC failure doesn't seem to be rare, people tend to report failures of anything more often than they do units that last a life-time. And we're probably not dealing with a representative sample of 370Zs, using the members of this site. Ie, it doesn't appear to be something to lose a lot of sleep over but you need to be prepared for it to happen. Lot's of good
info on this site about trouble-shooting the problem and how to fix it if you are a DIYer.
The oil-consumption problem seems to be a lot like the CSC - not very common but very serious when it does happen. If the powertrain warranty is still in effect, Nissan should fix it. A lot more
info on this site.
