It doesn't matter what the dealer paid. If they paid $100 for it, they're not going to use their standard mark-up percentage and pass the great deal on to you. And what they told the person that traded it in isn't necessarily what the bookkeepers think they paid for it (eg, dealer may have given over book value for car, on paper, but jacked up the price of the new car, higher interest rate, &c).

Look up what the big online car sites say it's worth in your area and go from there.
