When you unlock the doors, the tab retracts, thus allowing you to press the thing-a-ma-bob that pops the gas door open. In my FX, in case of malfunction there is a small access port in the trunk area (part of the plastic trim) that allows you to reach in, pull on a cable of sorts to disengage this white tab to pop open the gas door. I imagine the 370Z's design is similar and similar access through the interior trim is in place as well.
Sorry to raise this thread from the dead but has anybody had any issues where the car is unlocked and the gas door still wont open?? Had this happen to me today, car was unlocked and I couldn't for the life of me get the fuel door to open. After furiously cursing at it for about 5 min and locking/unlocking the car about 20 times it finally opened like normal. Anybody else had this issue? Is the locking mechanism thingy going bad on my car? What would cause this? First time it has happened in the 3.5 years and 40k miles I've had this car for.
