Our insurance was expensive but good coverage, really really expensive and great coverage, or one of those Flexible Spending Account deals.
I now have an HSA with a $2000 deductible.
I've been putting money into it for a few years and I really only pay for doctor visits and contact lenses, so basically so far I've just started paying for all of that stuff with untaxed money, and I have enough cash in there to cover the deductible should anything bad happen. It seems to work OK.
The prescription benefit SUCKS though. I paid like $80 for some stupid antibiotics last year.
