I'm sorry but that mechanic is just feeding you bull$hit. The CSC is located inside the bell housing of the transmission and requires several hours of labor to remove the transmission and bell housing cover in order to visually inspect the CSC. So unless you paid him somewhere in the neighborhood of $700 to drop the transmission, there's no way he checked the CSC.

All he did was look at the transmission from below and note there was no fluid leaking out of the bell housing.
