I shared your concern when I started looking at sizing. This started in unison with my install of ft & rr sways and end-links 2 weeks ago, knowing that I badly needed rears to support the new sideways. So I started checking what would add contact width. My choice was the Michelin PSS (mostly since my previous experiences with them have been outstanding) - in the 295/30 size, which would add over an inch of tread and still fit on the recommended rim size. (I run Sports - not Nismo)
That brought me to the fronts and I wanted to go wider there too. But the diameter dif??
I didn't find anything that fully blessed my endeavor, but an Altima, Porsche, and Camaro forum each mentioned a plus/minus variance of 3% between front and rear would not trouble the ABS/VDC. And more, the fronts being so close to stock diameter would not challenge the speedometer any.
Then I ran into trouble getting the 295's from either TR or DT. Michelin PSS in that size were on back order everywhere. The S0-4's happened to come in those size ranges too - although much skimpier on the tread width dimension ;-( and were immediately available 'on sale' from TR. Deemed worth the try...
Have now gone 600 miles since mounting. 400 highway – very! aggressive, rest mixed - mild aggressive. No warning lights or misapplied braking of any kind. (I already have 53,000 miles on this 2 year old dog – I would hope to notice something amiss.)
No guarantee, but so far so good. If all proves out I'll get the Mich's during the winter and then attack for real!
