Default Optimum oil temps

From back in my racing days, we ran the oil at 240-260 degrees F. This is because hotter oil is less viscous and flows better giving you more power. Quality modern oils don’t start breaking down until 270+ F and quality synthetics can tolerate temps over 300. Also, all the combustion contaminants i.e. water and hydrocarbons that can break down oil will burn off at 220. So your oil should be fine under 270 and you should get it over 220 to burn off contaminants. I am sure there are articles on the web on this subject. Here is a link to an article from Hot Rod magazine.
