Supercharger for Occasional Track Use?
Alright guys, I've spent the past couple of days looking for info. So far the only thread that was valuable was TravisJB's build, but he was driving at an an advanced level (at least he is/was beyond my current skill and track frequency).
What I want out of my build:
-400+rwhp
-streetability
-track readiness/"reliability" for (2-4 track days a year)
What I have already:
-GTM Stage 1.5 S/C Kit (it was a damned good deal that i could pass up). this will more than blow my WHP requirements. In fact I am thinking about trying to locate a larger pulley in order to run lower PSI. Even if I don't I will be getting it tuned for engine safety vs. max hp (i know there is no true safety tune, but hopefully you take my point).
-GTM baffled pan, 34row oil cooler, CSF 3pass Radiator
What I am worried about:
After reading travisjb's journal, I feel that in addition to the 34 oil cooler and the CSF rad. I will need to add some more cooling. Why?
-intercooler blocks the airflow significantly. this is probably the hardest to combat. i think the only solution for this is ducting to make sure all the air is forced through the radiator.
-with the GTM kit the oil cooler is moved in to the driver's side, behind the bumper, outside of the airflow. Initial thought here is a fan and vented fender liner. I would prefer not to add vents to the front of the bumper, but would consider it if necessary. also have considered a second oil cooler. thinking i would do a laminova water to oil cooler, in sequence with the 34row (water enters laminova unit first, then hits the 34row). i think this would work well if the coolant temps stay in check.
-vented hood. AMS style, since it seems to have the largest vents. Although there is a terminator style VIS hood that seems to have the vents more centered over the radiator. primarily interested in venting (looks is secondary since i would likely not keep the hood on unless i was going to the track).
My questions:
-am i overthinking this since it won't be a dedicated track car and i won't be trying to eek every second out of a lap?
-can i get away with a fan on the 34 row with the fented liner, and the vented hood?
-do you guys estimate that i would need the second cooler and some custom ducting?
-what do you think about the laminova>34row setup, given the radiator air flow problem caused by the intercooler? would this just add more stress to the system (seemed like travisjb was using with relative success even without the 2nd 34 row cooler)
-is placement or size more important for a vented hood?
-anything else you can think of?
sorry for the long post. i generally am able to find 99% of my answers in other threads, but this doesn't seem as well documented. maybe because it's a bad combo.
