depends on how wide your throttle is at 4k. if you WOT each time to 4k you'll use up considerably more fuel, but i dont open it up that wide for normal acceleration. i like to be in torque band for the next gear, so that is part of the reason why i rev to 4k.
that said, i dont really keep track of mpg either.
if you want to save fuel, get another car.
