The key to remember is that rims are a consumable!!!
The rims are heat cycled and flexed. Metal fatigue will set in and a rim will eventually fail with time. The larger the offset, the more flex the rim is going to see. I think rims of a lower quality will fall from fatigue sooner than later. Likely the metal in a good rim will last longer than life of the rim....be it bend from impact, change of car, etc.
Track use rims are exposed to more stresses and should be closely inspected each season (if not more). More extreme temp cycles and dragon teeth provide more stress in a season than most street rims ever see.
