If the rears have already lost traction and you've got the engine wound up, when you lift completely off, the compression braking causes more or less the same effect as if you pulled the emergency brake on full-tilt - couple that with pitching all the weight onto the front wheels and a little counter-steering and bam, you just overcorrected into a curb (or tree, or a parked car...).

This is true in a drift, but simply lifting (before its to late) when traveling in a straight line prevents loss of control.. Very basic stuff, if he can't drive it in a strait line its probably best he spun it into a tree in only 2nd gear. Could've been worse
