Not a dumb question at all. The issue with the K&N CAI is that the filters sit in the engine bay and will potentially suck in hot air generated by the engine. Yes, there are some baffles that separate the filters from the engine bay, but I don't think they're very effective. Contrast that with the Stillen Gen3 or Injen CAI, which collect cool air from in front of the radiator.
