The gas that you have already pumped sucks in a lot of air and the gas that you have pumped, of course goes in your tank........

When you fill your tank....there is a lot of air that is trapped in your tank and it goes to the top of the gas tank...... this is what can cause condensation in cold weather.....and you dont have to shake the car.......lol.....but it does help to shake the car because it helps work the air out of your tank faster.........
