So this being my first auto tranny, I experienced something today that made me go

I was at a carwash and put the car in P, but didn't release the brake pedal. Typically, once I release the brake pedal after putting in P, the car slightly moves forward. Anyways, once I put in P, I needed to move up a bit and put it back into D, but heard a few clunking noises.
Kinda scared me. Anyone ever do this?
