Default ETC Disable?

There's a thread on changing or disabling the ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) settings in the Tuning section, but I'm curious to hear about people's experience from a racing perspective.

I autocross and in that setting throttle control and response are critical. One behavior the car has I'd like to get rid off, is the "rev hang", or delayed throttle closure, upon lifting. Nobody I've talked to seems to think it can be tuned out, but there seems to be a chance it can be eliminated if ETC is disabled completely.

Have no problems with how the car behaves when I push the gas, just when I lift.

As ETC disable is a global setting, I can't have it done in only one "map", and doing so also breaks cruise control and synchro rev match, but I'm ok with that.

I'd love to hear stories from those who have progressed in their race car builds, and what they felt and observed when they took the step of removing ETC (or perhaps switched over to an aftermarket ECU). Uprev states doing so is risky, and something like "makes smooth throttle control difficult, even in a racing situation" - but I'm not sure what they mean by that, and if it's just some kind of CYA.

Any input from those that have made the switch is much appreciated.
