I'm with the suck it up/ignore it crowd.
Because I enjoy shifting, I only considered the 6MT. This is the sort of decision you need to make before purchasing a $40k car. If you're letting other people's opinions get to you you either A) have really thin skin or B) bought the wrong car.
6MT and 7AT owners on here give each other $h*t all the time; it's all in the name of good fun. Incidentally, the real reason people get a 7AT is so their wife or daughter can drive it.
